As Barack Obamas’s presidential term comes to an end, Malia Obama was spotted having a good time at the Lollapalooza Music Festival this past weekend. When I watched the footage of Malia, all I saw was a young eighteen year old girl unapologetically enjoying herself with friends, however, social media erupted after the footage surfaced. A lot of people came to the conclusion that if your father is the president, that “twerking” (wouldn’t call what she did twerking) is completely left field and disrespectful. Shots were fired as people couldn’t understand why she couldn’t wait until her father was out of the White House…. she’s making black women look bad….etc. Let Malia live is all I could say to myself. I mean seriously, what were you all doing at 18 years old? [FOOTAGE]
I think the footage of Malia was absolutely nothing compared to what has been noted in the media from the family’s of other presidents and presidential candidates. Allow me to refresh everyone memory of a few.
Donald Trump’s wife, Melania Trump, has a series of raunchy photos that have surfaced. Really America, potential first lady here?
Jenna and Barbara Bush
According to USA Today, the twin daughters of the former president George W. Bush Jr. were charged with underage drinking back in 2001 when they were both nineteen years old.
Back in 2008, Sarah Palin’s daughter, Bristol, became pregnant at 17 years old and the news was publicly announced at the 2008 Republican National Convention.
Malia Obama has been in the White House for the past eight years and she is ready to have a little bit of freedom and fun. I think people sometimes forget that no matter your status in society is or who your parents are, that we are all just people at the end of the day. To everyone who is saying that she is making Barack Obama look bad as a president, I think it would take a lot more than Malia dancing a Lollapalooza to completely downplay all that he has done for the entire country. Let’s also not forget she’s going to Harvard University next year. Give the girl a break.
